Nick Shirley Shifts Focus to California Amid Fraud Allegations
Independent journalist Nick Shirley claims he’s been targeted after revealing government misconduct and is now turning his attention to California.
Shirley gained significant attention for releasing a video that exposed fraud in Minnesota. Recently, he testified in front of House members during a hearing that investigated the fraud scandal in the state.
He acknowledged that the work can be risky, but he’s determined to take on California next.
“Fraud is going to be uncovered in California. We’re seeing so much of it happening across the country,” he stated on “The Ingraham Angle.”
Trump’s Request for California’s Recipient List
Amid concerns over potential fraud, President Trump has called on California to provide a list of recipients as $10 billion in funding has been suspended due to these issues.
Shirley expressed that fraud might be prevalent in various initiatives, from daycare programs to large-scale projects like the high-speed light rail that Governor Newsom has been attempting to push forward for years.
California Leaders Under Fire
Critics have accused Governor Gavin Newsom and California officials of failing to reign in fraud due to insufficient oversight. Bill Esseri, the first assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, initiated a task force in April to investigate corruption, with a focus on homeless programs.
He noted, “California has spent $24 billion over the last five years on homelessness, and it’s unclear where that money actually went,” when he appeared on “Fox & Friends” earlier in January.
Threats Against Journalists
Shirley warned that the investigation into government corruption is becoming riskier, with threats extending from online harassment to real-life dangers. He mentioned he had to hire around-the-clock security due to his home address being made public and receiving calls from the public directed at his family.
“It’s disheartening to see the level of hostility aimed at those just trying to serve the public by exposing wrongdoings,” Shirley remarked. He went on to say that while most Americans are supportive, a small percentage react negatively because they are connected to fraudulent activities.
Shirley’s Allegations Under Scrutiny
Shirley’s reporting in Minnesota attracted national focus regarding allegations of misuse of taxpayer funds, but Minnesota officials have countered these claims, asserting that prior investigations didn’t reveal widespread fraud in child care centers.
Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz suggested that Shirley’s allegations were politically charged, stating in a post, “This is President Trump’s long game. We’ve been working to address this issue for years. While it’s a serious problem, this was always part of Trump’s strategy.”
