Investigation into Illegal Marijuana Operations in Maine
A local reporter has highlighted investigative journalist Philip Ranzicki from the Daily Call News Foundation for his insights into China’s role in illegal marijuana operations. Recently, two individuals were charged in connection with these activities in Maine, with ties to groups linked to Communist China. This was first reported in May.
Steve Robinson, the editor-in-chief of Mainwire, shared findings with Tucker Carlson about items discovered in abandoned vehicles near a marijuana cultivation site. Robinson noted, “Thanks to Philip Lenczycki from the Daily Caller News Foundation, I was reporting last week in Dexter about the illegal marijuana growth. We found an abandoned BMW there, and on the seats were two shirts marked with the Chinese for the West Association of New York.”
“At first, I thought it was odd,” Robinson recalled. “I took a picture, but didn’t think much of it. The site is just a mile away from a military facility.” Philip later managed to link the two suspects arrested in Carmel, Maine, to a figure featured prominently in Chinese state media, who had discussed his intentions to return to the U.S.
The individuals involved, Huang and Yongchao Huang, faced legal action from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office following their arrest on June 29, 2023.
A memo acquired indicates that over 270 locations in Maine are suspected to support these illegal operations, as reported in August 2023. “Our understanding of Cantonese, Mandarin, culture, and these associations shows they’re often just front groups,” said Robinson, reflecting on their findings.
