Appearing on MSNBC’s recap of former President Donald Trump’s conviction, former national security adviser Michael Cohen, who is facing tough times as the prosecution’s main witness against Trump, praised New York Judge Juan Marchan, who presided over Trump’s trial.
“How do you think Donald Trump feels right now in light of these verdicts?” MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow asked.
“Well, I can only remember when Judge Pauley sentenced me to 36 months,” Cohen responded. “I don’t feel good. The sentence is terrible. Of course I pleaded guilty and accepted the 48 hours I was given, or I would have had to serve an 80-page indictment that included my wife. I never felt good. I did what I had to do to protect my family. This is just not true. Donald did not give up that to protect his family.”
“He saw it through to the end,” he continued. “And Judge Juan Merchan is such a gentleman. Watching him in court is like watching poetry. It’s like watching a good judge who makes quick decisions. He was just the perfect judge. The jury had a lot of respect for him, and so did I. So I didn’t look at any of the social media or Danya’s posts. [Perry]”Of course, they told me to stay off social media, and I did just that out of respect for Judge Marchan and the judicial process. The jury respects Judge Marchan, and I believe a lot of the antics that occurred in the courtroom, whether by Blanche or by Donald himself, closing their eyes, leaning back, completely ignoring the jury, I don’t think generated good feelings from anybody.”
