Judge Denies Bail for Sean “Diddy” Combs
On Wednesday, Judge Arun Subramanian denied bail for music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, with a judgment scheduled for October 3rd.
Combs has been in custody since September 16, 2024. On Wednesday, he was acquitted of three serious charges stemming from a federal complaint related to various crimes.
After deliberating for 13 hours over three days, the jury found him guilty of two lesser charges.
Interestingly, the more serious charges that he was found not guilty of carried potential life sentences, while the two lesser charges each had minimum penalties of 15 years.
This verdict is viewed as a significant win for Combs. He expressed his gratitude, shaking hands with one of his attorneys and thanking the eight female jurors as he left the courtroom, smiling as the verdict was announced.
Prosecutors accused Combs, a prominent figure in hip-hop, of leading a crime organization that allegedly directed employees and bodyguards to carry out various illegal activities.
The charges he denied included forced labor, drug distribution, bribery, and arson, among others.
To substantiate the assault claims against Combs, the jury needed to find evidence of a criminal enterprise involved in at least two crimes.
The allegations of sex trafficking involved two women, one being singer Cassandra Ventura and the other known as Jane, who testified about alleged abuse and threats.
The trial featured extensive documentation, including thousands of pages of calls, financial records, and audiovisual evidence.
In defense, Combs’ legal team challenged the claims of coercion, arguing that the women involved were adults capable of making their own choices. They did acknowledge that domestic violence was part of Combs’ relationships but argued it didn’t meet the standards for sex trafficking.
The prosecution responded by asserting that the defense’s narrative was distorted. They argued that Combs seemed oblivious to the women’s courage in speaking out against him.
