A federal judge has rejected an effort by former President Trump to dismiss the charges against two of his co-defendants in the Mar-a-Lago case.
Judge Eileen Cannon’s order dismissed various claims from Trump valet Walt Nauta and property manager Carlos de Oliveira.
Both men, as well as Trump’s own lawyers, have been charged in a case in which Trump helped move boxes at Mar-a-Lago to hide them from law enforcement.
Cannon rejected efforts by both men to get a more detailed breakdown of the allegations they face, saying, “The indictment as a whole lacks sufficient information to assist Nauta in preparing for trial.” I can’t say,” he wrote.
She also ruled that the claim that she did not know what was in the box was not a reason to dismiss the case, but rather was a claim that the two should prepare at trial.
“Certain challenges to the Special Counsel’s presentation of evidence may be raised at trial, where the Special Counsel bears the full burden of proof as to all material elements of the obstruction charge,” she wrote.
Cannon issued a decision on efforts to dismiss a lawsuit from two of Trump’s co-defendants, but she failed to issue a decision on numerous motions from the former president asking her to throw out the case. It was served in response.
