Judge shot at home with his wife states he won't be intimidated to leave his position

Tragic Shooting of Judge in Indiana

An Indiana judge, Stephen Meyer, and his wife were tragically shot on the front porch of their home. Despite the violent attack, Judge Meyer expressed unwavering faith in the justice system, stating that he wouldn’t let fear dictate his actions, even with a gunman still at large.

In a statement released Wednesday, he told the community, “I have great faith in our justice system,” highlighting that the horrific incident, which occurred on Sunday, did not diminish his belief in resolving conflicts peacefully. He emphasized, “I remain convinced that our country has the best justice system in the world, and I am proud to be a part of it.”

Reports indicate that both Judge Meyer and his wife, Kim, were shot at their home in Lafayette, located northwest of Indianapolis. At 66 years old, Judge Meyer sustained an arm wound, while Kim suffered a hip injury.

According to a 911 call, a person knocked on their door claiming to have their dog, and shortly after that, a bullet was fired through the door.

They were rushed to a local hospital where they are currently in stable condition and recovering. In his statement, the judge expressed gratitude towards the medical team, mentioning, “I am receiving excellent treatment and am recovering.” He also noted Kim’s appreciation for the community’s support as she heals.

Unfortunately, neither Judge Meyer nor his wife encountered the shooter, who remains at large as authorities continue their search. The motive behind the shooting and a description of the suspect have yet to be disclosed.

The investigation involves multiple agencies, including local law enforcement, state police, and the FBI, all actively seeking answers following this devastating event.
