“Today’s victory for Kansas is a victory for the entire country…This is not only unconstitutional, it is unfair.”
U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree in Wichita, Kansas, blocked parts of the plan just before U.S. District Judge John Ross in St. Louis, Missouri, issued a preliminary injunction against the plan. Biden’s plan was set to take effect on July 1.
Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach praised the ruling in a written statement.
“Today’s victory for Kansas is a victory for the nation,” Kobach wrote. “Whether to forgive billions of dollars in student loan debt, as the Court rightly held, is a critical question only Congress can answer. A blue-collar worker in Kansas who didn’t go to college shouldn’t have to pay off the student loans of a New Yorker with a gender studies degree.”
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey posted about the decision on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The Court granted our motion to block Joe Biden’s illegal student loan scheme,” Bailey said. Posts“Congress never gave Biden the authority to saddle working Americans with $500 billion of other people’s debt. A major victory for the Constitution.”
