Julian Edelman’s Fantasy Football Experience
Julian Edelman, the former wide receiver for the New England Patriots, got into fantasy football during his early NFL days. He made the most of his insider knowledge, which, let’s be honest, gave him quite the advantage.
“I drafted like half the lineup,” Edelman shared, mentioning players like Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez. He had a unique insight into the team’s game plans, which he leveraged to boost his fantasy team. It must have been quite a strategic edge, right?
Interestingly, Edelman emphasized that he simply had to include Tom Brady in his fantasy roster. However, once he stepped away from playing, he still faced the music from Patriots fans regarding his fantasy performance. Walking around Boston, he’d often hear comments like, “I got 10 points in my fantasy! Thank you, Jules!” or, “Just three catches?” That must have felt a bit odd, balancing fame with fan expectations.
After retiring in 2021, Edelman returned to fantasy football but found himself on the other end of disappointment. He recalled one of his worst picks that kept him up at night: Joe Burrow. After a stellar 2022 season, Burrow’s performance in 2023 didn’t quite live up to expectations, leaving Edelman feeling a bit betrayed.
Despite this, Edelman remains optimistic about Burrow for the upcoming season. He noted, “We’ll only have six catches this week, right? Come on, buddy!” It’s a light-hearted reminder that hope still lingers, even amidst frustration.
To help others, Edelman is collaborating with sleeping tab brand Unison on a series called “Sleeper Pick,” using his insight to guide fantasy football players. He wants to ensure they don’t lose sleep over their picks, much like he did.
“With my sleeper picks, I’m very connected to all these coaches and players,” he mentioned, suggesting that fans can expect some solid advice. Perhaps, this insider knowledge will translate into better fantasy decisions for others, just as it did for him back in the day.
