Julian McMahon's 'Charmed' co-stars reflect on the late actor: 'Truly unique'

The cast of “Charmed” is reflecting on their late co-star.

Julian McMahon passed away at 56 on Wednesday after battling cancer. He was well known for playing a half-demon character in the series, which aired from 1998 to 2006.

The show centers around three sisters: Piper Halliwell (Holly Marie Combs), Prue Halliwell (Shannen Doherty), and Phoebe Halliwell (Alyssa Milano), who navigate life as witches.

Shannen Doherty, who portrayed Prue for the first three seasons, tragically died last July at the age of 53 following a long fight with breast cancer.

After Doherty’s departure, Rose McGowan stepped in as their sister, Paige Matthews.

In response to McMahon’s passing, Combs, Milano, and McGowan took to social media to express their sorrow.

“I’m heartbroken,” Milano said, recalling McMahon’s role as her on-screen love interest. She shared her thoughts on Instagram, saying, “Julian McMahon was magic. His smile, his laugh, his talent—it lit up the room. Along with his charisma, his kindness stood out.”

Milano reminisced about their years working together on “Charmed.” “We had years of shared scenes and countless memories. He made me feel secure as an actor and was always supportive, even when it wasn’t easy.”

She went on to say, “He was more of a TV husband to me than my actual husband. He was a genuinely good friend, always checking in and telling the truth with loving kindness.”

Milano also extended her thoughts to McMahon’s family, noting, “My heart goes out to Kelly, Madison, and his precious girl. He cherished them deeply, and it was evident in every conversation.”

“Losing him feels surreal and terribly unfair. It’s too soon. I will hold on to his laughter forever,” she concluded.

Combs expressed her grief, posting a montage of moments from “Charmed,” featuring McMahon and other cast members.

“To call him kind feels like an understatement,” Combs shared. “His enthusiasm and unique humor were unforgettable. We will always treasure the joy he brought into our lives.”

Meanwhile, Brian Krause, who played Leo, also paid tribute on Instagram, calling McMahon “one of the most entertaining and gracious souls.” He sent prayers to McMahon’s family and friends.

Rose McGowan shared her own tributes, including a drawing of McMahon with angel wings and heartfelt sentiments about their connection and the loss they all feel.

McMahon’s wife, Kelly Panniagua, confirmed the sad news to the media on Saturday, revealing he passed away in Clearwater, Florida, after his battle with illness.

Panniagua stated, “I want to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, passed peacefully this week after a courageous battle against cancer. He loved life, his family, friends, and fans. His greatest wish was to spread joy to others.”

She also requested privacy for their family during this time of mourning, expressing gratitude for the memories they shared.
