Julio Iglesias Denies Assault Allegations

Julio Iglesias has firmly rejected accusations of physical and sexual assault made by two former employees. The allegations stem from a recent joint interview where the women claimed incidents occurred during their employment at Iglesias’ Caribbean residence between January and October 2021.

In response, Iglesias issued a statement on his Instagram, vehemently calling the allegations “completely false.” He expressed his profound sadness over the situation, stating, “With deep regret, I respond to the accusations made by two former employees of my home. I deny that I ever abused, coerced, or disrespected any woman. These accusations are completely false and cause me great sadness.”

He expressed gratitude towards his supporters, noting that their messages of love and loyalty provided him with comfort during this difficult time. In a follow-up, he mentioned the unexpected nature of such accusations and conveyed his determination to defend his dignity.

Spanish prosecutors confirmed to the Associated Press that they had received an anonymous complaint against Iglesias on January 5. The two women, who have chosen to go by the pseudonyms Rebecca and Laura, are represented by the nonprofit organization Women’s Link Worldwide. Rebecca mentioned she had three motivations for coming forward: seeking justice for herself, supporting other women who may have faced similar situations, and ensuring such incidents are discouraged in the Dominican Republic.

Laura added that her goal is to ensure no woman endures similar abuse in the future, emphasizing that women should see themselves as victims and survivors, rather than feeling guilty.

Julio Iglesias, now 82 years old, is a celebrated artist with multiple Grammy Awards and is recognized in the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is also the father of musician Enrique Iglesias.
