Rodriguez Unfazed by Dodgers’ Offseason Moves

The Dodgers have bolstered their roster with new additions like Edwin Diaz and Kyle Tucker, yet Seattle Mariners star, Julio Rodriguez, isn’t feeling intimidated by Los Angeles’ changes this offseason.

In a chat with the California Post during Super Bowl week, Rodriguez acknowledged the Dodgers’ successful approach to free agency, particularly after securing two consecutive World Series titles. Still, he expresses confidence in the Mariners’ ability to stand up to what many see as the heavyweights of MLB heading into the 2026 championship.

“I think it’s going to be very successful on the field,” Rodriguez said regarding the Mariners’ matchup with the Dodgers. “That’s where we’ll tell you the whole story.”

The Dodgers retained almost all their key players from their championship lineup—names like Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto are still in the mix.

They’ve also made significant investments, acquiring Diaz and Tucker, leading former MLB player Eric Chavez to proclaim this could be “the best team of all time.”

Rodriguez believes that if the Dodgers stand in the Mariners’ path to achieving a ring, he’s ready for that challenge. “I think they’re doing good things,” he commented, adding, “I feel like they’re investing where they need to be. They want to compete. I’m really excited to play against them next season.”

Regarding the Dodgers’ spending and its implications for a potential salary cap, Rodriguez expressed his support for anything that promotes the growth of the game. Interestingly, the Mariners came close to facing the Dodgers in the 2025 World Series but fell just short, losing in the ALCS to the Blue Jays, who ultimately lost to the Dodgers in the championship.
