Julio Rodriguez’s baserunning blunder helps Yankees

The Yankees clinched a playoff berth thanks to a flying bat on Wednesday night at T-Mobile Park.

Anthony Rizzo, who had two hits and two RBIs, drove in Jasson Dominguez with a double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead, a lead they held on to.

But it wasn't easy.

The Yankees brought in relief pitcher Ian Hamilton in the bottom of the 10th to close the game out, but Hamilton needed a freakish double play and help from the agile Austin Wells.

Cal Lowry led off the frame with a fly single to left and struck out the runner before Hamilton struck out Randy Arozarena.

But Arozarena's bat flew down the third base line and Julio Rodriguez dodged to avoid it.

But Rodriguez, forgetting he could be tagged out, didn't rush back to the base.

This gave Wells a chance to throw to third base, where he tagged out Rodriguez for the second out.

Hamilton then struck out Justin Turner, who had hit a solo home run earlier in the game, to secure the Yankees a spot in the postseason.
