The only Mets offensive lineman who hasn’t performed well in recent weeks has been Jeff McNeil.
The two-time All-Star batted just .216 with five homers and a .591 OPS through his first 88 games, forcing him to take some time off this year to reset.
McNeil had at least one run-scoring double against the Rockies on Saturday and Sunday, totaling three RBI in both games.
“His bats have been good the last few weeks,” Carlos Mendoza said over the weekend. “He’s continued to hit strong, he’s just not had the luck.”
“But for him to come in and perform in that situation after we created traffic was huge. … He needed it and we needed it.”
With Starling Marte on the disabled list, McNeil has been splitting time between second base and right field recently.
Veteran infielder Jose Iglesias contributed to the team as a second baseman, posting an OPS of .999 in 30 games.
Mets sign Logan Porter to add depth to catching corps He will sign a major league contract and be optioned to Triple-A Syracuse, according to KPRC in Houston.
Porter, 29, opted out of his contract with the Giants last week after being traded from the Royals in June.
He appeared in 11 games with Kansas City last season but has spent the majority of his career in the minor leagues.
Porter appeared in 53 games at the Triple-A level with Omaha and Sacramento this season, batting .293 with eight home runs and an OPS of .890.
The Mets announced their 2025 schedule on Thursday, opening the season with three games against the Astros on March 27 in Houston.
After three more games on the road against the Marlins, the team’s home opener at Citi Field will be against the Blue Jays on April 4.
The two series between the Mets and Yankees will be played May 16-18 at Yankee Stadium and July 4-6 at Citi Field after a total of four games against each other this season, with one additional game added at each venue.
