Preparedness for Upcoming Protests Against Trump Policies
On Thursday, the Justice Department announced that nearly 100 offices of U.S. attorneys will be set to respond on Saturday due to planned protests against the Trump administration’s policies. These nationwide demonstrations, referred to as “king” protests, are expected to draw thousands of participants who are intent on voicing their opposition.
A spokesperson for the DOJ stated, “As we’ve said before, the department respects the right to peacefully protest and engage in important issues. However, the division, alongside its 94 U.S. attorneys, will not accept illegal violence or property destruction.”
Coinciding with these protests, a large military parade is scheduled for Saturday to celebrate the Army’s 250th anniversary, which also coincides with Flag Day. Interestingly, the Kings website hasn’t explicitly stated that this parade is a tribute to the president. In fact, Donald Trump described it as “a display made for the TV of domination for his birthday.”
The protests and parades are unfolding against the backdrop of recent violent riots in cities like Los Angeles and New York, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty.
Organizers have declared, “There’s no King; it’s a national day of rebellion,” emphasizing their intent to reject authoritarianism across various venues, from urban areas to small towns and parks. They assert that the flag symbolizes the people, not the president—implying that the events are a reflection of true democracy.
As tensions mount, Trump has warned that any potential protesters at his military parade will “meet with a very large force.” Additionally, U.S. attorneys have been alerted to the possibility of filing federal complaints should protests escalate into violence.
In light of these developments, organizers from the No Kings site have opted to focus their activities outside the nation’s capital, targeting locations in Philadelphia, Virginia, and Maryland, while clarifying that there will be no events in Anacostia Park, D.C.
