Justice Department Seeks Details on 2016 Trump-Russia Allegations
This week, the Justice Department made a request to the Director of the National Intelligence Office for information regarding a conspiracy from 2016 that purportedly linked President Donald Trump to Russia. This marks a significant step in what seems to be an ongoing investigation by the department.
Prosecutors from the DOJ have asked the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) for a range of documents, which are meant to support a recent push by National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard. She’s been advocating for an investigation into officials from the Obama administration regarding the alleged conspiracy. It was first reported by Federalist, and sources familiar with the matter have confirmed this to other media outlets.
A letter to the ODNI outlined various requests for material, including private documents linked to those declassified papers that were released in July.
Investigation Underway into Allegations
Gabbard also mentioned during a recent appearance that she had met with DOJ prosecutors involved in the investigation. She expressed confidence in the process, saying she expects more inquiries will take place, hinting at a deeper examination of the situation.
According to Gabbard, the DOJ is dedicated to advancing this investigation thoroughly, ensuring that no information is overlooked in the quest for truth.
There’s a notable coordination between DOJ officials and the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Great Ju Court, which is currently in the phase of gathering information. It remains unclear exactly how long this investigation will take.
The existence of this investigation was first reported on Monday. It’s still a mystery who, specifically, is being looked at, or what potential charges could emerge from this inquiry. There’s a lot of speculation, but nothing concrete yet.
Gabbard has argued that new evidence indicates national security officials, including President Obama and others like John Brennan and James Comey, may have intentionally bypassed standard protocols to produce misleading intelligence during Trump’s election. She claims this laid the groundwork for the narrative surrounding Trump’s connections to Russia, which dominated the first years of his presidency.
While Trump’s presidency was under the microscope due to special investigations into Russian interference, it’s important to note that none pointed to any conspiracy involving Obama’s team, something Gabbard is now claiming.
Additionally, the DOJ’s correspondence with the ODNI involved requests related to an investigation into media leaks, potentially expanding the scope of the Great Ju Court’s examination. Gabbard asserts that the media obtained sensitive information during Obama’s administration that falsely attributed Trump’s election victory to Russian meddling.
In a rare statement, Obama’s representatives dismissed Gabbard’s claims as outrageous, indicating a general disinterest in responding to what they view as unfounded allegations. The spokesman criticized the assertions as weak attempts to distract from various issues.
