Attorney General Threatens Legal Action Against Protesters
Attorney General Pam Bondi has indicated that legal action may be taken against those who disrupted a church service in Minneapolis, protesting against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Bondi stated on social media that she had a conversation with Pastor Jonathan Parnell following the protests at Cities Church.
She warned that attacks on law enforcement and intimidation of churchgoers would confront the full weight of federal law. In her statement, she expressed concern that if state officials don’t act decisively to curb lawlessness, the Department of Justice (DOJ) is ready to prosecute these acts as federal offenses.
“If state leaders refuse to act responsibly to prevent lawlessness, this Department of Justice will remain mobilized to prosecute federal crimes and ensure that the rule of law prevails,” Bondi noted.
Her office is currently looking into the situation to determine if any federal laws were violated.
Video footage shared online shows a group of demonstrators shouting at church attendees during the service. The protestors followed congregants into the parking lot, blocking their vehicles as they attempted to leave.
This protest was organized by Black Lives Matter Minnesota, who claimed that one of the pastors, David Eastwood, is linked to the local ICE office.
The situation has sparked discussions about the safety and sanctity of places of worship, especially during protests that target religious institutions.
