Justice Department Subpoenas Minnesota Democratic Leaders
The Justice Department has summoned five Democratic leaders in Minnesota to investigate the legality of their resistance to federal immigration enforcement.
Federal prosecutors recently issued subpoenas targeting at least five Democratic officials in Minnesota, intensifying scrutiny over the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration policies in the region, according to sources familiar with the situation.
The subpoenas request documentation from Governor Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and St. Paul Mayor Kaoli Haa about immigration enforcement strategies in the state. Additionally, similar requests were made to two prosecutors, State Attorney General Keith Ellison and Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty.
This inquiry is propelled by the Democratic Party’s support for actions against federal enforcement officers and demonstrations favoring enforcement.
President Donald Trump stated at a press conference that “we have to get rid of the sanctuary cities.”
However, obscured by the anti-ICE initiatives, there are suggestions that some Democratic leaders could be involved in hidden collaborations with welfare fraud operations led by the Somali community across Minnesota.

Noem remarked to reporters at the White House in mid-January, implying that Walz “could be complicit in that.”
She continued, stating:
“We are participating in Operation Surge to address what might be the largest fraud scheme in American history. Individuals were taking from taxpayers and robbing funds meant for the most vulnerable. Many from the Somali community exploited these services, enriching themselves at the expense of those in need. This occurred right under Governor Walz’s watch, and we suspect he was not only aware of it but might have been complicit as well.”
