Justin Fields’ Training Camp Update

On Thursday, Justin Fields had to leave the training field, which understandably sent Jets fans into a panic. Their worries grew as they feared the starting quarterback might be sidelined so early in training camp.

Initially, Fields shared in that anxiety. His phone lit up with messages. Thankfully, after some tests, it was determined he only suffered a dislocated toe on his right leg.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Fields said, “God was watching that day,” when he spoke on Tuesday.

To protect his injured toe during the recovery phase, he’ll be wearing a protective plastic shield on the outside of his cleat for the next few weeks.

Interestingly, this injury doesn’t seem to limit his performance. He managed to practice fully, demonstrating that he could still use his legs effectively.

Fields emphasized the importance of his toes for a full recovery, stating, “Toes are how to go back to 100%.”

Remarkably, Fields only missed one practice despite the change in teams and coaching staff, which suggests he’s determined to stay engaged.

“This is the time you get those reps,” he explained. “It’s incredibly valuable, especially when you’re trying to sync up with your teammates and learn new plays.”

Clearly, he was eager to minimize time away from the field.

In team news, the Jets have welcomed back a familiar face. Veteran kicker Nick Folk was signed on Tuesday, solidifying his spot, which had seemed uncertain earlier in the camp.

Folk, now 40, previously kicked for the Jets from 2010 to 2016 and has a track record of important kicks, like his 32-yard game-winning field goal against the Colts in the 2010 AFC Wildcard playoff.

A longtime friend and advisor of Folk released a statement reflecting on this return: “Coming back to the Jets has brought back many great memories.”

Head coach Aaron Glenn praised Folk, acknowledging, “He’s a very well-established kicker in this league,” and expressed happiness that Folk chose to join the Jets again.

The Jets have also started their training camp with rookies Kaden Davis and Harrison Mevis among the roster. However, neither has particularly stood out during practice.

As a result, the team decided to part ways with Davis to make room for Folk, who has shown consistent performance, having missed only one field goal attempt in the last two seasons.

Last year, he went a perfect 22-22 and was 29-30 with the Titans in 2023.

It appears the Jets are looking to make some key adjustments as they navigate through training camp.
