Justin Fields of the Jets Shares That the Bible is His Daily Guide, Admitting He's "Low-Key Addicted"

The well-known NFL quarterback, who faced challenges early on in Chicago before moving to Pittsburgh, is now with the New York Jets, where he’s finding his footing. Justin Fields was remarkable as a college quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes, racking up a 20-2 record as a starter. However, his transition to the NFL was less smooth, as he ended his three seasons with the Chicago Bears with an 11-29 record, despite showcasing impressive moments. In one highlight from 2022, he became just the third quarterback in league history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season.

He was traded to Pittsburgh in 2024, starting only six games before joining the Jets as a free agent. Now, he’s the team’s starting quarterback.

This week, Fields shared with reporters how he’s learning to manage external opinions about him and how important it is not to let negativity affect him.

“I definitely had to learn that for over a year,” he remarked. “…I’m like an opinion that shapes my opinion.”

He mentioned that his outlook has shifted significantly over the past six months.

“I’m happy to grow from that stage. I’m happy with it… the only approval I need is my teammates, my coach, and ultimately, God.”

When asked about the reason behind this change, Fields pointed to his faith.

“I’m really close to God – as I said, my relationship [and] I read the Bible every day. And if I’m the real thing, there are some great lines.”

He continued, expressing, “So I’m being modest, but I learn something new every day, and I can apply it in my daily life, just like I’m in the Bible every day.”

“I was sleeping reading the Bible early in my life. I wish I had started earlier,” he added.

He wrapped up his remarks by encouraging the media to also engage with scripture.

“I would recommend you read a little to y’all before starting out. [in] Proverbs, and then proceed from there.”
