Jets Secure Victory Despite Early Struggles
In an odd twist, Justin Fields faced significant hurdles during the Jets’ game against the Browns. With just six offensive plays in the first quarter and the quarterback ending the first half with minus-5 passing yards, it didn’t look great for him.
The Jets managed to score 17 points in the first half, but it was mostly due to special teams. They achieved this through two touchdown returns and some field goals, leading to a 27-20 win at MetLife Stadium, marking their second consecutive victory.
As they gear up for a Thursday Night Football matchup with the Patriots, it seems Fields will hold on to his starting position for at least another week.
After the game, coach Aaron Glenn mentioned, “The first half wasn’t satisfactory for us, offensively or defensively.” He went on to add, “But I think we made some adjustments in the second half which gave us a shot at the win. Ultimately, it’s about getting results. We’ll review the footage and address any problems in practice this week to prepare for next week.”
Fields’ performance late in the game did help him redeem himself somewhat. With the score tied at 17-17 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Jets seemed to find their rhythm, especially when Breece Hall scored a 42-yard touchdown, finally getting the offense moving.
“We definitely started slow,” Fields observed, reflecting on their performance. “But we ramped things up in the second half and managed to score some points. Our defense played really well too—it was a solid team effort.” He felt proud of how well Brees ran the ball and how the offensive line executed their plays.
The quarterback situation with the Jets has been a bit unpredictable lately. Fields had previously been benched in Week 7 against the Panthers, only to make a comeback the following week against the Bengals.
Heading into their next game, Fields has two wins under his belt.
Worry Over Wilson’s Injury
Wide receiver Garrett Wilson has become a concern again. He returned to the field after missing two games due to a right knee injury but left the game in the third quarter with the same issue.
After an incomplete pass down the left sideline, Wilson was seen limping off the field. Initially listed as questionable to return, he was later ruled out entirely. In a surprising turn of events, he didn’t record a single catch during the game, marking the first time this has happened in his career.
Tribute to Nick Mangold
The Jets paid a heartfelt tribute to Nick Mangold during their home game, the first since the legendary center passed away from kidney disease on October 26. A flag bearing his number 74 was unfurled on the field as a video tribute was shown before the national anthem. Mangold’s wife and four children participated in the ceremony as honorary captains for the coin toss.
