Justin Fields Unsure About Starting Role Against Browns
On Wednesday, Justin Fields shared that he isn’t certain if he’ll be the starting quarterback for the Jets in their upcoming match against the Browns.
“Let’s see,” Fields mentioned, leaving some ambiguity in the air.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn commented on Monday that he wouldn’t confirm whether Fields or Tyrod Taylor would be taking the snap this week.
Although Fields has shown promise, especially before the bye week with a solid performance against the Bengals, where he completed 21 of 32 passes for 244 yards along with one touchdown, the starting position remains in question.
It’s possible that both Fields and Taylor know their roles, but Glenn seems to be keeping the Browns guessing.
Fields expressed confidence in the team’s ability to build on their previous week’s success in Cincinnati.
“I think we’ve been making progress since Week 1,” he said. “We’ve had several tight games, and this latest one just happened to swing our way. We understand that this is how most games will unfold. The key now is to maintain this momentum as we head into the next game.”
On a separate note, Taylor participated fully in Wednesday’s practice, indicating that his knee injury shouldn’t pose a problem this week. Before the Bengals game, there was consideration to bench Fields for Taylor, but the latter was not in good enough shape to play.
Former Jets Player Discusses Trade
Meanwhile, former Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams spoke with the media in Dallas on Wednesday, reflecting on his recent trade to the Cowboys. He addressed his frustrations stemming from a string of losses during his tenure with the Jets and responded to questions about wanting to leave the team.
“Everyone knew I was frustrated,” he noted. “It’s hard to be in that situation for so long. Any fierce competitor hates losing. Even during my time at Alabama, when we lost the national championship with a record of 16-1, I felt the weight of it. But, despite the frustrations, my relationships there never fell apart.”
Injury Updates for the Jets
In terms of injury updates, wide receiver Garrett Wilson was limited in practice for the first time since his knee injury in London on October 12. Linebacker Kiko Mauigoa was also limited due to a concussion. Additionally, the four players acquired in trade—wide receivers Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie III, defensive tackle Maji Smith, and cornerback Jasir Taylor—practiced on Wednesday. The Jets have also added safety Dean Clark to the active roster, placing safety Andre Cisco on injured reserve, and signed safety Jarius Monroe to their practice squad.
