Justin Haak’s Departure from NYCFC

Justin Haak seems to have officially announced his exit from New York City FC as he posted a heartfelt farewell on social media. This comes on the heels of reports stating that he has signed a contract with Los Angeles Galaxy.

The 24-year-old center back’s agreement with NYCFC is set to conclude at the end of the 2025 season. Earlier this month, the club revealed they were in talks with Haak about his future, but it now appears those discussions didn’t lead to him staying in New York.

A report suggested that LA Galaxy was close to finalizing a deal with Haak as early as Christmas Eve. In November, there was optimism that negotiations were advancing positively, but as the offseason unfolded, signs indicated otherwise.

In an emotional Instagram post, Haak reflected on his time with the organization, saying, “I wouldn’t be where I am today without this organization. I’ve created countless relationships and memories that will last a lifetime. In the 10 years I’ve played for NYCFC, things haven’t always gone the way I envisioned, but I wouldn’t change that.”

He added, “Overall, I am forever grateful for the opportunities I have been given and the challenges that have made me stronger.”

Haak, originally from Brooklyn, progressed through the NYCFC academy and joined the first team as a homegrown player in January 2019. He contributed to the team’s victory in the MLS Cup in 2021.

Over the past few seasons, he has become an important player for the club, notably scoring the lone goal in the Eastern Conference Finals against Inter Miami last November. During the regular season, he tallied one goal and four assists.

Haak expressed gratitude towards the fans, saying, “I will continue to support and encourage the players. Thank you [New York City FC] and most importantly, the fans who have given me their support and passion throughout my time at this club.”
