But late in the second quarter, the Chargers and their fans held their breath as quarterback Justin Herbert limped off the field with an apparent injury to his left foot.
The injury occurred on a third-and-10 play when Herbert attempted a throw downfield while rolling to his right. After a huge collision with linebacker Nick Bolton, the quarterback remained down for an extended period of time as trainers watched over his left leg.

To add insult to injury, the play resulted in a holding penalty that cost the Chargers an additional 10 yards.

Taylor Heinicke entered the game for the next play, but the throw on 3rd-and-20 fell incomplete, forcing the Chargers to punt.
The Chiefs currently lead the game 6-0, but all eyes will be on Herbert's status with the remaining games.
update: Herbert returned to the game for the Chargers' next possession, and Melissa Stark said Herbert was hit in the thigh, but no examination on the sideline was necessary.
