Justin Rose kicks off 2024 PGA Tour season with record performance at The Sentry

It's been quite an up-and-down week for PGA Tour veteran Justin Rose.

After receiving a two-stroke penalty for an accident in the first round of Sentry on Thursday, Rose bounced back and had a strong performance in Maui, Hawaii.

The British player shot a 12-under 61 in Sunday's final round. This tied him with Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Matt Jones for the lowest 18-hole score in the course's history. Coincidentally, the other three all accomplished that feat last year.

“This is the golf course that all the greats have come to. It's the Tournament of Champions, yes, all the great players on the PGA Tour come here. So to record the lowest score ever, it's pretty “I mean,” Rose said after the round.

The 2013 U.S. Open champion actually set a record for himself by making the long putt on No. 18. Funny thing is, he didn't realize that.

“I didn't know what the course record was…I hit 35, 40 feet on the last hole and came up short. Maybe I should have known at the time,” Rose said. Ta.

Formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, Sentry is known for putting players through the ranks. The elevation changes and undulations of some tee boxes and fairways allow for monster drives and great scoring conditions.

On Sunday, Chris Kirk held off Jordan Spieth and Saheeth Segala for a late win to earn his sixth PGA Tour victory. He shot 29-under 263.

Rose couldn't match that score. My chances were destroyed in the first three days. But on Sunday, he played great.

He will look to build on that momentum at next week's Sony Open.

“It was a great round in ’61 and we should build on this for the rest of the year.”
