Justin Thomas choked tears as he explained how special it was to see his wife, Gillian and daughter, Molly, earning the 2025 RBC heritage in South Carolina on Sunday.
In an interview, CBS reporter Amanda Barionis said that Gillian was “just a girlfriend” and that he was “not here” when his daughter Molly last won.
“It’s hard to win, it’s really, really difficult,” said Thomas, 31, when Barionis asked why the victory was particularly emotional for his family. “I took my ass off, became patient and stayed positive. I’ve won a great wife, a great team and now a great daughter.
“…When you ride those runs, I take it for granted at times. I didn’t realize how much fun it was to win there today or miss out on a fight.”
Gillian was shining with pride as he held the couple’s daughter in a portable baby carrier.
The couple, who tied the knot in November 2022, welcomed their daughter, Molly Grace, on November 18th, 2024.
Thomas sank a 21-foot birdie putt into the first hole of the playoffs against Andrew Novak to secure his victory at the Harbortown Golf Link on Sunday.
He won his 16th PGA Tour victory and ranked sixth in the world.
“I just have it [Molly] And here Jill, I just saw them.” Thomas said After the victory. “…I had to look away because when you’re there now you’re focusing on what you’re doing…it’s business and I’m trying to do what I’m doing, I’m trying to win a golf tournament.
“…It’s hard to start thinking about what you can do when you see it, so that’s why I just had to lower my head and take a deep breath.
Thomas called Jill a “rockstar” for supporting him on the course.
“I think it’s just going to tell her how much fun it is for us to do this as a family,” Thomas said.
