North Carolina Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Officer at Hospital

A 37-year-old man from North Carolina, Justin Wilkes, has been arrested again after an alleged incident in which he assaulted a police officer at a local hospital. This event took place at the ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville on a Wednesday.

According to reports, Wilkes was asked to leave the premises, which sparked a confrontation. After some heated words were exchanged, he reportedly punched a campus police officer in the head. It’s noted that during his arrest, he also made statements that seemed to provoke immediate violent retaliation against the officer.

Wilkes faces several charges, including assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting a public officer, as stated in jail records.

Interestingly, prior to this incident, Wilkes was out of jail on pretrial release for a separate arrest just a week before. He was charged with trespassing at the same hospital. His criminal background is extensive, stretching back to 2005, with offenses that include drug-related charges, robbery, and assault, leading to multiple stints in prison. His most recent release was in July of 2023.

Currently, he is being detained at the Pitt County Jail without bail. The local prosecutor’s office has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the case.
