Apology from Avery Johnson’s Family After Game Incident

The family of Kansas Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson released a statement on Saturday, addressing his involvement in a brawl that erupted following the team’s loss to Iowa.

In the game, Johnson completed 21 out of 30 passes, amassing 273 yards and tossing two touchdowns. He also rushed for 21 yards, including a touchdown run. Notably, he connected with Jerland Bradley for a 65-yard touchdown pass with 6:25 remaining in the game, but unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn’t regain possession afterward.

Iowa State ultimately claimed victory, finishing the game at 24-21.

After the final whistle, videos surfaced on social media showing Johnson’s father and brother in a physical altercation with other fans in Dublin, where the game took place as part of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.

Mark and Anthony Johnson explained that what began as an argument escalated into a brawl, saying it turned into a “meaningless fight.”

“I sincerely apologize for taking action following yesterday’s football game in Ireland,” the Johnsons stated. “The argument escalated into unnecessary fights. We have resolved our differences and take full responsibility for our actions.”

The family extended their apology to Kansas State University, its alumni, and fans, expressing a commitment to learning from the incident and preventing any recurrence in the future.

Johnson and the Wildcats found themselves behind early in the fourth quarter, after which Iowa scored on the subsequent drive.

Now in his third season as a starter for the Wildcats, Johnson had an impressive performance last season, accumulating 2,712 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, along with 605 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
