Kacey Musgraves Reflects on Relationship with Miranda Lambert
Kacey Musgraves, at 37 years old, is both reminiscing about her past and looking ahead. She’s focusing on reshaping the story surrounding her complicated connection with another popular country artist, Miranda Lambert.
When asked about the rumored clash with Lambert, Musgraves joked about their “beef,” describing it as “grass fed, grade A.” In discussing her latest album, *Middle of Nowhere*, she expressed that the duet they created stemmed from a genuine place—not just a typical songwriting session.
Musgraves shared that despite not being friends for years, they found inspiration through social media, which allowed them to reconnect. An idea sparked in her mind when she saw Lambert riding a horse on Instagram. Musgraves thought, “We both share a love for horses and, well, divorce.”
She elaborated, “It struck me as a potential song.” So, she considered approaching Lambert to collaborate. The response was a bit unexpected, as Lambert mentioned feeling a bit down, which led to Musgraves acknowledging, “I wasn’t aiming to rekindle a friendship, just to collaborate on this song.” After some delays, they completed the track in January.
An earlier conversation had revealed past tensions, particularly when Musgraves referred to Lambert’s hit song “Mama’s Broken Heart,” which she co-wrote in 2013. She reflected how that situation had turned awkward when it felt like it had been promoted without Lambert’s knowledge.
In the end, the two artists have now teamed up for “Horses and Divorces,” set to feature on Musgraves’ upcoming sixth studio album, which is slated for release on May 1. It seems like both artists are carving out a new narrative, one that could perhaps lead to a stronger understanding between them.
