Kaitlyn Deaver only has one scene, which is way too short. Good grief, Daniel Levy's new Netflix movie that started streaming today. But what a sight it was!In fact, I think it's Kaitlyn Deaver's Good grief The cameo is the funniest scene in the movie.
To be fair to the other scenes, Good grief It's not exactly a funny movie. The script and director Schitt's Creek Starring Daniel Levy, it tells the story of Mark Dreyfus (Levy) as he deals with the aftermath of the sudden and tragic death of his husband Oliver (Luke Evans). Oliver was a successful novelist whose series of fantasy novels were made into movies. The film's funniest scene, then, ironically, takes place at Oliver's funeral, where her series lead actress (played by Deaver) takes the microphone.
Deaver was making me laugh before she even opened her mouth. Her character wears a tight black strapless dress that barely reaches mid-thigh. On her head she wears a black pillbox hat with a lace veil. When she takes the stage, she always carefully crosses her 5-inch heels, her pumps in front of the other, and her red carpet pose. It's just inspired physical comedy.
She went on to give a not-so-heartfelt speech about how Dear Oliver changed her life by giving her the opportunity to appear on the series. She credits Levy with writing this hilarious monologue. Some standout lines include: part “My audition led to the publication of the first Victoria Valentine book,” and “My heart breaks for his family and our film.”

Levi's reaction to Deaver's antics is perfect. He gives her her patented David Rose slow blink and mocking head tilt. And Deaver reminds us of that in the last line of her speech.
“He had more stories to tell,” she sobbed, her voice comically cracking. “But life sucks. And now I wonder if he'll end up shooting his fifth movie and his sixth movie because he was still writing the script. I don’t know.”
At this point, Deaver turned her head toward the sky to speak directly to the late author. “Oliver, you son of a bitch, I hope the studio gives them the green light in honor of them and that we can continue to tell your stories for years to come, because we need them! ”
This is the first time I've laughed so much at a funeral. Unfortunately, Deaver never appears in the film again. Shortly after her rant, David Bradley (aka Argus Filch) Harry potter) gives the audience an emotional whiplash by delivering an authentic and heartbreaking speech. But even though she's on screen for less than a minute, Deaver makes the entire movie. Now we call it talent.
Can we please bring this woman back into comedy? About 5 years have passed since 2019 book smart. Clearly, she was born to make them laugh.
