Karen DeBoer Affirms He Isn’t Leaving Alabama
Karen DeBoer has made it clear that he isn’t planning to go anywhere.
This week, Alabama’s head coach addressed persistent rumors about a potential position at Michigan, explicitly stating he has no interest in that job.
While DeBoer has repeatedly attempted to quash the speculation regarding his departure from Tuscaloosa, he emphasized his commitment to the Crimson Tide. Interestingly, there are also reports that Alabama is working on a contract extension for him.
As the team gears up for the College Football Playoff, DeBoer insisted that his concentration remains steadfastly on Alabama.
He stated, “I have not and have no intention of discussing other work with anyone. I am fully committed to this program and look forward to continuing as the head football coach at the University of Alabama.”
His position aligns with reports indicating that Alabama is already in early discussions for an extension. Though details have yet to be finalized, it’s worth noting that DeBoer is currently under contract until December 2031, with a salary exceeding $10 million annually.
This rumor comes on the heels of Michigan firing coach Sherone Moore for cause after allegations of inappropriate conduct and a troubling incident involving law enforcement.
DeBoer’s focus has been especially noteworthy, given Alabama’s current position in the CFP, where they’ll be facing off against Oklahoma on December 19.
Now in his second season with the Tide, DeBoer led the team to a 10-3 record, which includes a loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship. However, he has successfully reaffirmed his status among college football’s elite coaches following a previous season of 9-4.
Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne also shared his support for DeBoer, expressing admiration in a statement. “I am proud to have Coach DeBoer lead our football program at the University of Alabama,” Byrne remarked. “He is a great coach and does a phenomenal job developing our student-athletes. We are as committed to him as he is to this team, and we’re excited to take the field on Friday in the College Football Playoff.”
