Pacers Rookie Arrested After Police Chase
Cam Jones, a rookie with the Indiana Pacers, was taken into custody on Monday following a police pursuit in Indianapolis.
Originally drafted 38th overall by the San Antonio Spurs, he was later traded to the Pacers. According to official arrest records from Marion County, he faces charges related to reckless driving and resisting law enforcement.
Records indicate that Jones was stopped by the police around 9:50 a.m. and was released later that afternoon at 3:22 p.m. His next court appearance is set for October 23 at 9 a.m.
It appears that Jones did not comply when Indiana State Police attempted to pull him over due to suspected erratic driving. Reports suggest that he failed to stop, leading to a brief chase.
During this pursuit, Jones allegedly reached speeds of 90 mph on Interstate 65, where the speed limit is only 55 mph. When finally apprehended, he reportedly claimed he was unaware of speeding, while also hinting that he was late for Pacers practice.
The Pacers addressed the situation in a statement, saying, “We are aware of the situation regarding Cam Jones. While we are gathering additional information, we have no additional comment on this matter at this time.”
As of now, Jones has yet to appear in a game for the Pacers. With the start of the 2025-26 season approaching, he is not expected to play, especially since it begins with a rematch against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Prior to being drafted, Jones was considered a promising talent but faced setbacks due to a back injury. Once he recovers, he is expected to join the Noblesville Boom, the Pacers’ G League affiliate.
Known for his scoring capability during his time at Marquette, Jones averaged 19.2 points per game, ranking second in the Big East, along with 5.9 assists per game. He earned recognition as a consensus second-team All-American and was named first-team All-Big East before entering the NBA Draft.
