Kamala Harris Faces Criticism Over Transgender Murder Statistics in New Book

Former Vice President Kamala Harris appears to have made errors regarding statistics on transgender murders in her recently released book.

In “107 Days,” published in September, Harris claims that 350 transgender individuals were murdered in the United States during 2024, with 15 of those being children. However, reports have indicated that the statistics Harris referenced seem to reflect global numbers rather than those specific to the U.S.

A tweet from Jessesingal pointed out this discrepancy, stating that the actual number of transgender murders in the U.S. is about 41 for the designated period.

Transgender Europe published the annual Trans Murder Surveillance Project report in November 2024, noting that 350 transgender individuals were killed globally since the last report in November 2023. Among those, 15 were under 18. While these numbers match what Harris cited, she incorrectly presented them as U.S. figures.

According to Transgender Europe, only 41 transgender individuals were reported murdered in the U.S. between October 2023 and September 2024.

Moreover, the Human Rights Campaign’s November 2024 report reveals that 36 transgender and “gender-expansed” individuals in the U.S. fell victim to “fatal violence” during the same timeframe.

As for Harris’ publisher, they have not responded to inquiries concerning the reported statistics.

Aside from these controversial figures, Harris’ book also offers insights into her experiences during the campaign trail. She reflects on the choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz as a running mate, emphasizing support over strategy.

Additionally, the book contains personal anecdotes about her life, including a memorable moment when her staff arranged a birthday surprise in Philadelphia, which she humorously recalls found her wondering about her husband’s plans for the evening—revealing it was, in fact, nothing elaborate.
