Kamala Harris avoids answering Colbert's question about the leader of the Democratic Party

Kamala Harris Discusses Leadership and Her New Book

In a recent appearance on “The Late Show,” former Vice President Kamala Harris faced questions about the current state of Democratic leadership. The interview, hosted by Stephen Colbert, came as Harris promotes her upcoming book titled “107 Days,” which covers her experience during the 2024 presidential election.

Colbert noted that Harris seems to be away from her duties and pushed her to identify who, in her view, is leading the Democrats. “There are a lot of leaders,” she began, somewhat hesitantly. However, when pressed by Colbert to name anyone specifically, she replied, “I think there are many. I can’t name them all; I’d just get someone upset,” adding that, ultimately, the responsibility lies with everyone. “It’s really all on us,” she stated, emphasizing collective accountability.

As she prepares for the release of her book in September, which she describes as revealing behind-the-scenes insights from her campaign, Harris confirmed she won’t be running in the 2026 California Governor’s Race. This has led some to speculate about her potential candidacy for the presidency in 2028.

During the discussion, Harris reflected on the challenges she faced, especially in distinguishing herself from President Biden. She expressed her reluctance to undermine his legacy, mentioning how uncomfortable it felt to criticize her former boss post-campaign.

Harris also touched on the climate of “subordination” she perceives since President Trump took office. “I think there are people who consider themselves the guardians of our democracy, but, maybe, I’m a little naive for believing that,” she mused, hinting at what she described as significant changes within political dynamics over recent years.

She seemed to allude to a major recent settlement involving Paramount, connected to her interview on “60 Minutes,” which stirred further debates on political influence and media relationships. Overall, her appearance reflected a mix of introspection and ambiguity about her future in politics.
