Vice President Kamala Harris defeated former President Donald Trump 63 percent to 37 percent in the first presidential debate, according to a flash CNN poll conducted on Tuesday.
Ahead of Tuesday night's debate, 605 US voters surveyed by CNN said they were split 50/50 on who would fare better. After the debate, 63% said Harris had won, compared with 37% for the former president. CNN:
The poll results reflect only the opinions of voters who watched the debate, and are not representative of the overall electorate. The poll found that debate viewers were 6 percentage points more likely to support Republicans than Democrats, and about 4 percentage points more likely to support Republicans than registered voters nationwide as a whole.
The results are a near 180-degree reversal from a quick poll released in June when former President Trump debated President Joe Biden.
“Voter viewers who watched the debate between Trump and Joe Biden said Trump outperformed his Democratic rival by 67% to 33%. In the 2020 and 2016 presidential debates, viewers saw Biden and Hillary Clinton as better than Trump,” the media noted.

“Voters who watched Tuesday's debate were evenly split on their opinion of Kamala Harris, with 45% saying they have a favorable view and 44% saying they have an unfavorable view,” CNN reported.
“This is an improvement from pre-debate, when 39% of the same voters said they had a favorable view of her. Meanwhile, debate viewers' views of Trump remained little changed, with 39% rating him favorably and 51% rating him unfavorably after the debate, roughly the same as pre-debate figures for the same voters,” the report added.
