Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has reversed her “environmentally friendly” progressive platform of banning plastic straws, her campaign announced Thursday, after she initially supported the policy.

“She does not support banning plastic straws,” a Harris campaign official said, “and even at the time she joked about how terrible paper straws are and that we need more environmentally friendly alternatives.”

Harris' campaign has rejected the idea of banning plastic straws, but a campaign aide told reporters the vice president remains focused on “fighting climate change,” without mentioning any specific climate concerns.

“She delivered a runoff vote on the most significant legislation in history to fight climate change and create clean energy jobs, and as president she will be focused on expanding that progress,” the official said. Axios.

The policy change is the latest of many “policy shifts” by Harris, which include supporting a stronger border wall, withdrawing support for Medicare for All and repealing a tip tax that she initially supported in 2022. In 2022, Harris voted in favor of passing a bill that would allow the IRS to track and tax workers' tips.

And after President Trump criticized Harris' anti-fracking policies, she changed her tune, arguing that “we can grow and expand a thriving clean energy economy without a ban.”

Harris now supports Trump's border wall and even uses it in her recent campaign ads, another example of how her radical values and policies have changed. A few years ago, she described Trump's border wall as “medieval” and “un-American” and explained that she would not support funding it “under any circumstances.” The bipartisan bill she supports would continue to fund Trump's border wall.

Harris has now backtracked on those promises without directly addressing them, and often changes the topic or gives vague answers to reporters' questions.
