Kamala Harris Confirms Shadow Campaign After Biden Ousted

Vice President Kamala Harris confirmed she would run for president, hours after President Joe Biden announced he was giving up on reelection and endorsing Harris.

The process ahead is murky at best for Democrats, but Harris will have to answer multiple questions about her complicity in charges of concealing what many voters suspected was Biden’s diminished ability to perform, as revealed by his June 27 debate with Donald Trump.

Harris called Biden’s decision to end his campaign a “selfless and patriotic act,” adding that in doing so he is “putting the American people and our country above all else.”

She did not specifically say that his actions were due to a realization that he could not beat Trump or an admission of his own deteriorating health.

Ms Harris will also have to answer questions about her potential role in ousting Mr Biden, who has already been rallied by elite liberal activists and donors to her campaign, despite Mr Biden overwhelmingly winning the delegates needed to secure the nomination.

Her full statement is as follows:

On behalf of the American people, I thank President Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and his decades of service to our Nation. His incredible record of accomplishments is unparalleled in modern American history and surpasses the achievements of many two-term presidents.

It has been a great honor to serve as your Vice President and I am deeply grateful to our President, Dr. [Jill] Thank you, President Biden, and the entire Biden family. I first knew President Biden through his son, Beau. We were friends when we served together as attorneys general of our respective states. During our time together, Beau would tell me stories of his father, the kind of father he was, the kind of man he was. And the qualities that Beau admired in his father are the same qualities, the same values that I see every day in Joe’s leadership as president: his honesty and integrity; his big heart and his faith and his devotion to his family; and his love for our country and the American people.

With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above all else.

I am honored to have the President’s endorsement. My intention is to seek and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled the country speaking to the American people about the clear choice they have in this crucial election, and in the days and weeks ahead, I will continue to do so. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party — and the country — to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.

There are 107 days left until Election Day. Together we will fight. And together we will win.

Notably, Harris chose to attack Trump over Project 2025, an outside effort to line up staff and other support for the next Trump campaign, which Trump has repeatedly denounced.
