Vice President Kamala Harris called Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, whom former President Trump picked as his running mate on Monday, to congratulate him after the announcement.

“Vice President Harris has reached out to Senator Vance to congratulate him on his selection, welcome him to the campaign and express her hope that the two of them will meet at a proposed vice presidential debate hosted by CBS News,” a Biden campaign official told Fox News.

After hinting at his choice for months, Trump revealed in a Truth Social post on the afternoon of the first day of the Republican National Convention that he had chosen Vance as his running mate.

J.D. Vance may be a worst-case scenario for Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election.

In May, Trump accepted a debate on Fox News to represent his future running mate, but Biden’s campaign wants to only do the debate on CBS.

The vice presidential debate has yet to be confirmed, but if Vance and Harris were to face off, that could be a worst-case scenario for the vice president. President Biden and former President Trump have agreed to hold two presidential debates, the first on June 27 hosted by CNN and the second on September 10 hosted by ABC.

“I think J.D. Vance is going to be the biggest threat. [to] “In some ways, Kamala Harris. He’s a fantastic debater,” Ashley Etienne, Harris’ former communications director, previously told CNN.

“I think he has the ability to be relevant to the 1 or 2 percent of people who might actually vote or are undecided, who actually pay attention to the debates, because most people don’t pay attention to the debates,” she explained.

She described the 39-year-old senator as “very smart” and “quick-witted,” and noted that this could be a problem for her.

This could be particularly problematic for VP Harris, who has become known for her frequent “word salads” and rambling monologues posted to social media. In one such video going viral on TikTok and other social media platforms, Harris asks, “You think I fell out of a coconut tree?”

She laughed, then continued: “You exist in everything you live and everything that came before you.”

Ms. Harris was even the subject of a Saturday Night Live skit poking fun at the habit. “I call it talking without thinking,” Daily Show correspondent Desi Riddick, who plays the vice president’s “general thought advisor, Dahlia Rose Hibiscus,” joked.

“It’s not the destination of your thoughts that matters, it’s the journey and the words you use to describe it,” she added.

One of the writers, Elena Plott Calabro, Profiling Harris for months “She’s extremely bad at communicating when the parameters are fairly broad,” a reporter from The Atlantic wrote.

It’s unclear whether Harris can win in a debate, where communication is one of the most important factors.
