Kamala Harris calls Biden’s decision to run 'recklessness'

Harris Labels Biden’s Reelection Bid as “Reckless” in New Book

In a forthcoming book, former Vice President Harris describes former President Biden’s choice to seek reelection as potentially “reckless.”

In an excerpt from “107 Days,” shared by the Atlantic, Harris reflects, “Among everyone in the White House, I found myself in the least favorable position to suggest he should withdraw. If I had told him not to run, he might see it as incredibly self-serving, interpreting it as stark ambition on my part.”

She further noted, “We all repeated like a mantra, ‘It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.’ It felt like we were somewhat entranced, acknowledging that the risks involved were incredibly significant. This shouldn’t merely hinge on personal ambition; it needed to be a broader decision.”

Last year, Harris briefly entered the presidential race but stepped back after a lackluster debate that heightened concerns over Biden’s age and mental acuity. She ultimately lost to President Trump.

Recently, Harris announced a book tour titled “107 Days,” covering 15 cities, including stops in the UK and Canada. The book, which chronicles her brief presidential run, is set to release on September 23.

In the excerpt, Harris remarked, “Many want to mask Joe Biden’s vulnerabilities by fabricating a narrative of a larger conspiracy within the White House. The truth, as I experienced it, is that Joe Biden is an astute individual with extensive experience and strong convictions, capable of fulfilling his presidential role.”

She added, “On his most challenging days, he demonstrated deeper insight and more empathy than Donald Trump, although, at 81, he was visibly weary. That’s when his age became apparent, both physically and in his speech.”

Harris commented on the debate turmoil, saying, “It’s not unexpected that this occurred shortly after two European trips and a long flight to the West Coast for Hollywood fundraisers.”

Her remarks follow the release of leaked audio from an interview between Biden and special advisor Robert Huar, which seemingly revealed concerns about Biden’s cognitive focus. This issue came back into public discussion more than 100 days into Trump’s presidency.

The Hill has reached out to the White House and Biden’s office for a response from former First Lady Jill Biden.
