In 2019, Senator Kamala Harris said she would ban plastic straws.
When asked, she responded, “I think they should.”
Harris first supported a plastic straw ban during her presidential election loss in September 2019 during a town hall meeting on climate change with CNN.
Asked if she supported the idea, Harris replied, “I think we should.”
She added with a laugh that drinking from a paper straw is “difficult”, suggesting that more innovation is needed in alternatives.
“It just needs to be a little more perfect,” she added.
Her campaign now claims she doesn't support it.
Vice President Kamala Harris said plastic straws should be banned when she ran for president in 2020. On Thursday, her campaign said that was no longer her position.
Why it matters: Banning plastic straws to protect the environment and marine life is the latest progressive issue on which Harris and her campaign have either refused to comment or changed their position.

Axios asked Harris' current campaign whether she still supports the idea.
“She does not support banning plastic straws,” a campaign official told Axios.
