CNN confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris had agreed to do an in-person interview following weeks of mounting criticism.
The Harris campaign was mocked for ignoring questions from the media, and at one point the campaign declined to comment to a reporter who asked about the refusal to comment.
“Nothing shows strength and faith like needing a babysitter.”
CNN said Harris will appear alongside running mate Tim Walz in a joint interview, likely pre-recorded with Dana Bash in the key battleground state of Georgia.
Harris was immediately criticized by many on social media.
“It's really odd that Ms Harris refused to speak to the press for over a month because she felt it would be a burden to her, and then finally agreed to a joint interview.” Reply Charles C. W. Cook of National Review.
“If Kamala Harris was a confident candidate, she would have conducted this interview herself and it would not have needed to be pre-recorded.” Responded radio host Dana Loesch;
“Needing a babysitter for your first public interview shows strength and conviction.” read Another response.
“Kamala Harris A babysitter is needed no matter how light the ball is thrown. CNN What about Dana Bash? She really can't even have a normal one-on-one match. Interview??? said Another critic.
Prior to the agreement, Democratic strategists had argued that Harris' campaign could ignore the interview because it trusted mainstream media to explain Democratic policies and values to American voters.
The Harris Waltz interview will air across all CNN platforms Thursday at 9 p.m.
