Kamala Harris Is the ‘Godmother of Sanctuary Cities’

In California on Friday, former President Donald Trump highlighted Vice President Kamala Harris' record of showing leniency toward violent criminals as San Francisco district attorney, calling her the “godmother of sanctuary cities.”

As Breitbart News points out, Harris has been lenient on serious crimes but tough on minor and non-violent offenders, prosecuting thousands of people for marijuana possession and even parents of children who don't attend school.

She served as district attorney from 2004 to 2011, a period that many locals see as the beginning of the city's decline.

As Trump pointed out, she was a champion of the “sanctuary city” policy, which bars local authorities from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement as a show of defiance against immigration law. In reality, the policy has attracted more illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities, including criminals who know they won't be deported.

As California Attorney General, Harris Threatened She has called for legal action against local law enforcement agencies that cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and has previously supported national “sanctuary” policies.

At a news conference at her golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes, near Los Angeles, Trump laid out a list of violent criminals for whom she had given leniency during her eight years as San Francisco district attorney.

One of them is Edwin Ramos, whose case New York Post:

Ramos' brutal murders of three members of the Bologna family – Tony Bologna, 48, and his sons Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16 – captured national headlines and prompted then-Mayor Gavin Newsom to change the city's juvenile crime policy.

Prior to these three shootings, Ramos had been arrested several times as a juvenile for his involvement in a gang attack on a bus passenger and an attempted robbery of a pregnant woman, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

In both cases, he was not referred to federal authorities because it was city policy not to question the immigration status of minors.

Harris did not seek Ramos' deportation, nor did she seek the death penalty for Ramos. post I have taken note.

The other was Ronnie Aguilera, an illegal immigrant. San Francisco Chronicle attention He was arrested on suspicion of assault but not deported, and later killed a 14-year-old boy with a sword.

Trump also noted that Harris has begun what he described as “cheap plea bargains” with criminals in the city.

According to Trump, these include: Explained From the Washington Free Beacon:

San Francisco homicide detectives have slammed Harris for her handling of the murder case of David Taylor, who confessed to beating and stabbing his 65-year-old mother to death while in a drug-induced stupor. Harris' office took over the case and agreed to charge Taylor with voluntary manslaughter and a 12-year sentence.

Trump too attention Harris' refusal to seek the death penalty in the murder of San Francisco police officer Isaac Espinoza has also drawn ire from Democrats, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

And before she was elected in Los Angeles County, Ms. Harris highlighted her support for hardline prosecutors like her successor in San Francisco, George Gascón, whom many residents blame for the ongoing crime rise.
