Kamala Harris Talks Support for Zoran Mamdani in Interview

During a recent interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, former Vice President Kamala Harris shared her thoughts on the New York City mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani. The conversation took place as part of a promotional tour for her upcoming book, “107 Days,” set to be released Tuesday.

Maddow was curious about Harris’s view on whether Mamdani, who identifies as a socialist, is a rising star in the Democratic Party and if she supported his candidacy.

“To me, he’s a Democratic candidate and deserves support,” Harris remarked, when prompted for her opinion.

When Maddow asked explicitly if she would back Mamdani’s campaign, Harris responded, “I certainly support Democrats in the race.” However, she quickly added that Mamdani isn’t the only “star” worth mentioning and encouraged attention to other Democratic candidates across the nation.

“There are other notable candidates like Barbara Doramond from Mobile and Helena Moreno in Alabama. They’re all running for mayor and deserve recognition,” she noted.

Even though Mamdani is running as a Democratic candidate for the mayor of New York City, he seems to lack endorsements from influential party figures, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Interestingly, New York Governor Kathy Hochul showed her support for Mamdani earlier this month, stating on social media, “New York City deserves a mayor who will stand up to Donald Trump and make life more affordable for New Yorkers. That’s@Zohrankmamdani.”

However, Mamdani has drawn some criticism from more moderate Democrats, particularly for dismissing certain progressive measures, such as the idea of city-owned grocery stores, and for condemning anti-Israel rhetoric.
