Vice President Kamala Harris praised the radical “defund the police” movement in a newly unearthed radio interview from June 2020, highlighting her record as the most left-leaning senator in 2019.
GovTrack Scorecard Ranking She is the most liberal senator of 2019, even further left than socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). But the list appeared to be up on the National Desk’s website until this week, but has now disappeared. report “The page you’re referring to is based on one calendar year. We stopped creating a new calendar-year ‘report card’ several years ago,” GovTrack founder Joshua Tauberer said. Tauberer said one year’s worth of data is “insufficient to create a reliable portrait of lawmaker activity.” Tauberer did not explain why this particular 2019 page was removed.
“So this whole movement is about rightly saying that we need to look at these budgets and see if they reflect the right priorities,” Harris said on New York radio show “Ebro in the Morning” on June 9, 2020.
“Defunding the police,” she continued, “the issue behind that is we need to rethink how we keep ourselves safe.”
And when you consider that many cities spend a third of their entire budget on policing, it’s clear that this is not a smart way to achieve safety, nor is it the best way or the right way. For a long time, the status quo has been that putting more police on the streets will make us safer. But that’s not true, because if you look at upper-middle-class suburban neighborhoods, you don’t have police cars there.
Later in the interview, she argued that American cities are “militarizing their police” while “defunding public schools.”

“For too long, the status quo has been that if you put more police on the streets, you’ll be safer. But that’s not true. It’s not,” she said.
In 2021, Harris will serve as vice president. Said“It’s a fallacy to think that the only way to make communities safer is to have more police on the streets.”
