Kamala Harris praises Biden’s legacy in first remarks since announcing 2024 bid

Vice President Kamala Harris Trump on Monday praised Biden’s accomplishments in the first few years of his term, arguing that he has accomplished more in less time than any other president.

“In his first term, he’s already surpassed the accomplishments of most two-term presidents,” she said at the start of a White House event for the NCAA championship team.

Biden announced his decision to step aside and suspend his campaign for the 2024 presidential election after facing significant pressure. “Serving as your President has been the greatest honor of my life,” he wrote in a letter posted to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday. “While I intended to seek reelection, I believe it is best for my party and our country if I step aside for the remainder of my term and focus solely on fulfilling the duties of my presidency.”

After announcing his decision, the president confirmed Harris as his successor, with Harris saying in a statement, “I am honored to have received the President’s confirmation. It is my intention to seek and win this nomination.”

Harris’ comments on Monday were her first since accepting Biden’s endorsement. 2024 Democratic nominee revealed.

She praised the president, especially for “his honesty, his integrity, his devotion to his faith and his family, his big heart, and his love, his deep love for our country.”

Kamala Harris has brushed off concerns about Biden’s mental competency for months.

“I witness firsthand that President Joe Biden fights for the American people every day, and we are incredibly grateful for his service to our nation,” she added.

The vice president also assured attendees of Biden’s hope to attend the event, adding, “He’s feeling much better, he’s recovering quickly, and we look forward to getting back on the road.”

Biden tested positive for COVID-19 last week, according to the White House.

While some Democrats stopped short of endorsing Harris as Biden did on Sunday, a flurry of public support for her came Monday morning from a number of prominent figures, many of whom were expected to challenge her. Though there is currently no significant challenger, Harris may be poised to unite the party as a candidate.
