Vice President Harris referenced one of Kendrick Lamar’s diss songs against Drake while discussing the importance of voting in a video that aired at the BET Awards on Sunday night.
Harris, Pre-recorded spots The show aired Sunday night and showed Harris receiving a video call from actress Taraji P. Henson, who hosted this year’s BET Awards. In the video, Henson expressed concern to Harris about the upcoming election, noting that women’s reproductive rights and the Supreme Court are “at stake” while “our fundamental freedoms are being tested.”
When Henson asked her what she was hearing on the campaign trail, Harris replied, “Taraji, you’re right. There’s so much at stake right now.”
“Most of us believe in freedom and equality, but these extremists, as they say, are ‘not like us,'” Harris said, to which Henson replied: “They are not.”
“Not Like Us” is one of Lamar’s most popular diss tracks, released in May amid a rap battle with Drake that dominated the hip-hop world for weeks. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and ended a feud between Lamar and Drake that dates back to 2013.

In the video, without naming any specific candidates or parties, Harris listed the threats voters will face in November.
“This is a full-scale attack on our fundamental freedoms: the freedom to vote, the freedom to love who we love, the freedom to be safe from gun violence, the freedom of women to make decisions about their own bodies without the government telling them what to do with them,” Harris said.
Henson eventually asked VP Harris what she could do, and she stressed the importance of registering to vote. Henson said she was texting “everyone I know” directing them to Vote.Org to register before November 5.
The ceremony, which was broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, featured performances by Will Smith, Megan Thee Stallion and Sexy Red, who performed the song “Get It Sexy” in honor of her. A hypothetical run for the White House.
During his acceptance speech after winning Album of the Year for his album “Michael,” rapper Killer Mike spoke about his arrest at the Grammys and the importance of voting, especially in local elections.
“They’re going to say it matters who you vote for,” he continued, “and it matters who you vote for on the big stage. That’s important, but it’s even more important to know who your city council members are, who your prosecutors are.”
