Kamala Harris States She ‘Might’ Consider Running in 2028 at Sharpton Event

Former presidential candidate Kamala Harris is moving closer to openly discussing her potential re-election campaign for the presidency.

During a conversation with Pastor Al Sharpton at the National Action Network convention in New York, she was asked if she intended to run again. She responded, “Well, I might, maybe. I’m considering it,” and added, “I’ll keep you updated.”

Harris further mentioned to Sharpton, “I understand what the role entails,” highlighting her experience as both vice president and a two-time presidential candidate.

This event drew an audience of Black lawmakers, influential figures, and voters, marking one of the first significant gatherings for prospective 2028 Democratic candidates. Harris was the sixth candidate to address the convention, alongside Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, and California Representative Ro Khanna.

As reported by Politico, the crowd often chanted, “Run again! Run again!” Sharpton even joked, “This is a convention, not a revival.”

Harris indicated that she plans to visit South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Arkansas soon. Earlier reports suggested her early 2026 itinerary would include stops in South Carolina and cities like Detroit, Jackson, Mississippi, Memphis, Tennessee, and Montgomery, Alabama—all places with sizable Black populations.

Entering the Democratic primary race in early 2028, Harris holds a polling advantage over many potential challengers.

As of February, she boasted a 27.5% approval rating among possible Democratic primary voters, surpassing California Governor Gavin Newsom’s 22.7%. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was at 9%, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 8.7%, Shapiro at 4.9%, and Pritzker at 3.4%—which shows a significant lead for Harris.

In December 2025, Harris established a political action committee called “Fight for the People.” In the announcement for the PAC, she mentioned her plans to “travel, advocate, and support Democrats everywhere,” stressing the importance of fundraising ahead of her organization’s first Federal Election Commission deadline.

Recently, Harris has also been working to engage younger voters. In February, her previous @KamalaHQ account was transformed into “Headquarters,” which she characterized as a “Gen Z-led progressive content hub.” In a video introducing the initiative, Harris expressed that it would serve as a platform for people to stay “informed about current events” and “connect with inspiring leaders, including elected officials, community leaders, and youth advocates.”
