Vivek Ramaswami, a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, told “CNN News Central” on Wednesday that as California's attorney general, Vice President Kamala Harris sued the Obama administration over fracking permits off the Pacific coast.
“If we can use Kamala Harris' own words as evidence, and I think we should, when she ran for president she supported an unrealized capital gains tax, she supported eliminating private health insurance, she supported a fracking ban and a ban on offshore drilling. These are policies that are simply not mainstream for most Americans,” Ramaswami said.
He went on to say, “She said that she is no longer in favor of a ban on fracking. In fact, she was one of the strongest proponents of that ban, even suing the Obama administration over the fracking permit when she was in California. She not only supported the abolition of private health insurance. She was a co-sponsor of the Medicare for All bill as a U.S. Senator, along with Bernie Sanders. In fact, when you think about the Green New Deal, she was a major proponent, not just as a co-sponsor of the bill, but going further and saying she would end the filibuster in the Senate to force it through. So, in fact, she can say what she wants to say now, and those are the actions she took. Are we allowed to evolve a little bit? Of course, we are allowed to, but it's worth explaining exactly why she changed her position. What exactly is her position? If it's not a ban on fracking, then what is it?” If she no longer supports the abolition of private health insurance, then what exactly is her health plan? Just four years ago, when she was running for president, she supported it. That kind of scrutiny is missing.”
