Winfrey highlighted that Harris admitted to owning a handgun during a debate with former President Donald Trump on September 10.Number during a conversation about firearms.

“I had no idea that,” Winfrey said in shock, drawing laughter from the studio audience at the “Unite for America” event.

“If someone breaks into my house, they're going to get shot,” Harris declared with a laugh, but then the Democratic candidate noticed a look of concern on Oprah's face and added, “Maybe I shouldn't have said that… My staff will deal with that later,” before continuing to laugh.

Meanwhile, the official Trump 2024 campaign X (Twitter) account commented on Harris' recent comments to Oprah.

“Can Kamala explain the make and model of the gun she allegedly owns,” the Trump Strategy Office posted, “and why she has advocated for door-to-door gun confiscation for years? This is called pandering and no one is buying that nonsense.”

Harris has tried to please her party by advocating for gun control in the United States, while avoiding angering Second Amendment supporters who own guns for safety or hunting reasons.

“Today, one in five people in our country have lost a family member to gun violence. Approximately 120 Americans are killed by guns every day across the country. This violence affects all communities, but it does not impact them equally. Black Americans are 10 times more likely to be victims of gun violence and homicide, and Latinos are twice as likely. As a former trial prosecutor, I have personally prosecuted murder cases. I have seen with my own eyes what a bullet can do to the human body,” Harris said at a briefing on September 22.and2023.

Fast forward to the present, and when the topic of school shootings and gun violence was brought up on the show, Harris vaguely said, “We just need to use common sense.”

“On the issue of gun violence, I think some people have pushed a false choice between supporting the Second Amendment or wanting to take away everyone's guns,” Harris said. “I support the Second Amendment and I support banning assault weapons, universal background checks, [and] “Red Flag Law”

Additionally, during Oprah Winfrey's live event, a survivor of the Georgia school shooting spoke as part of the rally Thursday night, with Harris watching. The survivor, Natalie Griffith, was shot twice in the Sept. 4 shooting.NumberIn 2024, a shooting occurred at Apalachee High School, leaving four people dead.

Oprah also used the opportunity to continue her denunciation of firearms.

“This is not normal. This is not right. We as Americans have to do more,” Winfrey said after the gun control event. “People's lives are being destroyed.”
