Kamala Harris to sit for interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle days after host defended VP dodging on policy

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to speak Wednesday with MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle, who days earlier had brushed off the vice president by avoiding specific answers to policy questions.

MSNBC announced on X that Harris will be interviewed in Pittsburgh alongside Ruhle, which will air Wednesday night. The interview will be Harris' first solo appearance with a major news network since becoming the Democratic nominee.

Appearing on comedian Bill Maher's show on Friday, Ruhle rushed to the vice president's defense after Maher and anti-Trump New York Times columnist Bret Stephens suggested Harris needed to be more specific in the interview.

“Kamala Harris is not running to be perfect. She's running against Trump. We have two options. So we're not going to know her answers. And in 2024, unlike 2016 for many Americans, we know exactly what Trump will do, who he is and what a threat he is to our democracy,” Ruhle said.

CNN commentator slams Harris after meeting with Oprah Winfrey: “Has she ever met with a hostile media outlet?”

Stevens fired back, saying, “Stephanie, the problem a lot of people have with Kamala is that she doesn't know the answers to anything, OK?”

Ruhle again turned to former President Trump, saying no one knows his answers to policy questions either.

Stevens said she would never vote for Trump, adding, “But people also need to have some idea of what the policies of the person they're voting for are. They shouldn't just say, 'Well, x is this and that, so I have to vote for y.' Let's do a little more research. And I don't think it's too much to ask for her to sit down for a real interview, rather than a flattering article about how she felt growing up in clean-grass Oakland.”

“I'll say this: if you move to Nirvana, give me your real estate agent's phone number and I'll be your neighbor. We don't live there!” Ruhle exclaimed.

Harris has been criticized for dodging questions and avoiding policy details in recent interviews.

“She couldn't or wouldn't answer a single question this week, and it was clear to everyone. She's a callous evasive person,” wrote The Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan.

“She owes us an answer and her being unable or unwilling to do so is wrong and a disrespect to her constituents,” Noonan added.
