Kamala’s new act: Tough on borders, soft on truth

If elected, Kamala Harris would be the only modern major-party presidential candidate to have never contested a primary, much less won one, and it’s hard to think of a single statement or position she hasn’t suddenly disavowed or now repudiated.

It’s a miracle that Kamala Harris has been the megaphone for the Biden administration’s far-left insanity for three and a half years. She was a reliable emissary for the Democratic Party’s radical base. Now she appears to be emulating Donald Trump on border security, legal immigration, support for law enforcement and fracking.

Like Biden, Harris’ panic attacks are not sporadic but characteristic, and the only solution is to isolate herself from the public as much as possible.

Still, when the Kamala hysteria dies down, Harris may suffer the same fate as Michael Dukakis. James Pearson recentlyAfter the excitement of the Democratic National Convention in July 1988, Democratic candidate Michael Dukakis was leading Vice President George H. W. Bush by 17 points in a Gallup poll. But in November he lost to Bush by 7.8 points. Why and how?

Bush politician Lee Atwater ran a series of brutally accurate ads ( Tank fiasco advertisement, Willie Horton advertisement, Advertisement for polluted Boston Harbor(and others) accurately recast Dukakis, a far more competent, kind, and well-spoken official than Harris, as an unabashedly far-left Massachusetts liberal (the 1988 election was the last time a Republican won 51 percent of the popular vote).

Apparently, Republican heavyweights have decided they will never again “stoop” to Atwater’s level, and they have been “handsomely” defeated seven times in the last eight general elections.

Falling into a memory hole

One of Harris’ most incendiary principles was her claim in 2020 that false martyr Jussie Smollett was a victim of American racism and homophobia. She passionately stated: “Jussie Smollett is one of the kindest, gentlest human beings I know. I pray for his speedy recovery. This is a modern-day lynching attempt. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexual orientation or the color of their skin. We must stand up against this hatred.”

Until late June, leftists were calling Harris Biden’s “border czar.” Indeed, Harris maintained that the nonexistent border was “secure,” even as her own administration mercilessly welcomed the influx of 10 million illegal immigrants. In that role, Harris envisioned dismantling Immigration and Customs Enforcement, opposed a wall, and did not consider illegal entry into the United States a crime. Americans were condescending to Harris, told not to call her “illegal immigrant,” and she ceremoniously introduced herself using the pronoun “she.”

Harris, the linguistic cop, also lectured people not to utter the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism,” as if the 9/11 murderers were not extremists, Muslims or terrorists. Just this week, when the Israeli national anthem was played at the Olympics, a radical pro-Hamas crowd waved Palestinian flags, saluted maniacally and chanted “Heil Hitler.”

In the world of July 21st, before Kamala Harris takes office, private health care should not exist, but there certainly should be free government insurance for illegal immigrants. Even if you currently legally own an “assault weapon,” the government has the right to force (“require”) you to sell it to the government.

For Harris, a nation with $36 trillion in debt, $1.2 trillion in annual interest payments, 70 years of affirmative action, an ever-increasing number of DEI mandates and de facto quotas, and more than $20 trillion spent on Great Society anti-poverty programs, should nevertheless move forward with racism reparations, a policy that even Californians reject.

All abortions are permitted on demand up until the moment of birth. Harris does not tell us how to abort a fetus on its way through the birth canal.

Harris was an early and vocal supporter of the Green New Deal, a plan that would bankrupt the middle class.

Harris believes police budgets should be cut and thousands of incarcerated criminals released. She was a vocal supporter of California’s disastrous de facto legalization of shoplifting and “misdemeanor” theft of items under $950. She tried to raise bail for 2020 rioters, many of whom were arrested for street violence, assault and looting.

Her most notorious act of incitement came during an interview with CBS’ Stephen Colbert, when she boasted that the ongoing 2020 protests (which have been fairly violent, despite efforts by her fact-checkers to “contextualize” Harris’s harsh accusations) would not stop.

They’re not going to stop. This is a movement, I want to say. They’re not going to stop. Watch out everybody, because they’re not going to stop. They’re not going to stop before Election Day in November, and they’re not going to stop after Election Day. They’re not going to let up. They shouldn’t let up, and neither should we.

Notice how Harris called the violence organized by Antifa and Black Lives Matter a “movement.” Notice how she threatened that the unrest will not stop and “should not stop.” Notice her warning to “be careful.” Notice how she shamelessly linked left-wing protests to Election Day 2020, highlighting their political utility.

Back to the basement

In 2020, the left saw Scranton native Joe Biden as a convenient “moderate” and “unifying” veneer for the hard-core third-term Obama administration’s policies, thanks to his long senatorial record and false working-class appearance. But Harris was a losing candidate in the 2020 primary who tried to compete with Bernie Sanders’ democratic socialist base, firstly on the Bay Area left, secondly on hard-core California progressives, and thirdly on the assumption that Harris had a more far-left record in the Senate than Sanders himself.

So the 2024 Harris team may go back to the 2020 playbook of keeping a gaffe-ridden, cognitively challenged candidate locked underground. Like Biden, Harris’ moments of panic are characteristic, not sporadic. The only solution is to isolate herself as much as possible. And the Harris team may again rely on the revolutionary changes to state voting laws in 2020 to ensure that roughly 70% of voters don’t cast ballots on Election Day.

But in 2024, they won’t be able to dress up a hard-left Harris again and repackage her as a middle-class centrist. There was no good old-fashioned Kamala the moderate from Berkeley.
